First Semester Sport Specific Training Sessions

Falcons, Great News!

On Tuesday, October 6, the AACPS Board of Education unanimously adopted a two-semester plan for high school athletics that will allow out-of-season, Sport Specific Training Sessions to begin on Monday, October 19.  As of now, the official MPSSAA season will begin in begin in February 2021.

  • Dates & Registration
    • Fall Sports: October 19th through November 14th 
      • Registration opens October 9th
      • Registration Closes at 5 pm October 15th
      • Physicals are required (Fall registration approvals will transfer)
    • Spring Sports:  November 16th through December 19th
      • Registration opens November 6th
      • Registration Close: 5pm on November 12th
      • Physicals are required
    • Winter Sports January 4th through January 30th 
      • Registration opens by December 15th
      • Registration close at 5pm on December 22nd
      • Physicals are required
  • What is an Out of Season Sport Specific Training Sessions?
    • Each program has been assigned 8, 90-minute sessions with no more than two per week within their assigned dates.
    • Training Sessions will have a maximum of 50 student-athletes.
  • Registration FAQ
    • You may only register for one sport per season.
    • Interested student-athletes will need to register for upcoming Training Sessions.
    • Previous Fall Registrations will remain for the MPSSAA Fall Season – Currently Scheduled for March 15th, 2021.
    • Fall Season Registration will re-open – Dates for registration for all three MPSSAA seasons are TBD until start dates are confirmed by the MPSSAA and State Superintendents.
  • Difference from Regular season practices
  • Will teams make cuts?
    • The AACPS Point of Emphasis is participation, Engagement, and social-emotional support.
    • In the event sessions reach maximum capacity due to DOH Criteria, SPHS will include returning student-athletes first and then select students for the remaining available slots using a school-based lottery system.
  • What will my child need?
    • Registered with an approved physical exam (fall approvals will automatically transfer)
    • Dress? Students must be prepared/dressed appropriately for weather. Lockers/Locker rooms will not be accessible. (Bathrooms will be available)
    • Water? Student-athletes must bring their own water. Resealable water bottles are preferred.
    • Transportation? AACPS will not provide transportation to/from training sessions.
      • Training Sessions will occur Mon-Thur beginning every thirty minutes between 3:30 and 7:00 PM.
      • Parents, guardians, and/or fans will not be allowed to congregate at the practice sites. Please remain in their vehicles while waiting for student athletes.
      • Schedules will be confirmed after registration numbers are set. These schedules will be distributed by the coach of your interested program.

Extracurricular Activities:  Dr. Arlotto and members of his team also discussed with Board members the work that is under way to allow extracurricular activities such as marching band, dance company, drama clubs, and robotics and similar academic-oriented clubs to take place this semester.  Stay tuned.
